Today is my 50th birthday. Michael felt bad because he thought I was turning 49, but I’ll take it. He’s younger than me and his birthday is 12 days before mine. (I’ll let that confuse you.) We have been so busy working on getting The French Twist launched that it was wonderful just to take a day off and spend it hanging out in downtown Pearl as a family.
Take a big guess at what we got each other for our big March birthday celebration. A food truck!
We went to our favorite restaurants in downtown Boulder, Shine. We love it because it has one of the largest selections of gluten-free offerings in Boulder. I like being able to look at a menu and not have to worry about what I can order. Michael likes it because it looks like the kind of place Harry Dresden would hang out in.
I had a really decadent hot chocolate brownie with cashew ice cream. All gluten- and dairy-free!
Both Max and I have been gluten-free for about a year. I also can’t eat dairy, and Max is allergic to about 40 different items. We’re not doing it because we’re trendy; it makes us both extremely ill. Turns out Max and I both have the gene for Celiac disease so when that three-day test comes out on the market that’s being developed in New Zealand, we’ll give it a whirl. (We’re really lucky that Michael not only cooks gluten-free (and dairy-free) for me, but that he has mostly eschewed it.)
It was a rocking birthday. Max prepared me a plate for lunch. He’s learned that presentation is important.
